My new hercules roadeo avalanche 21 speed mountain bike

To ride on a multi-speed bicycle was my dream. Last week this dream came true. I bought a Hercules Roadeo Avalanche 21 speed bike with front disc brakes.

When I decided to buy a new bike my expectations were
  1. The bike should have gears
  2. Price should be below Rs.5000
and thats it.

After searching on the internet and visiting forums like bikeszone.com, my perspective was changed.

My initial budget was Rs.5000 (or below that). I visited some of the shops in chennai and found that hercules ultima meets my budget and expectation. But soon I found that Hercules Ultima is heavy and it has only 6 speed. So I increased my budget. Now my expectations are
  1. Bike should have at least 18 gears
  2. No need for disc brakes but if it has one, great
  3. No need for suspensions
  4. Bike should be light weight. alum alloy is preferable.
  5. Both MTB and RTB or hybrid.
  6. Budget is Rs.7000

I was very much interested in hero thunder mtb. But it is not available in the market. All other hero cycles are bit costlier.

Then I viisted balaji cycle world http://is.gd/cll8x. The owner was a nice person and showed me the Hercules Roadeo. He told me that the price was Rs.6800. I was excited to see that awsome bike falls within my budget range. I told him I will come next week and take the bike.

But I visited balaji cycle world the next day itself and ordered roadeo. But the woman in the showroom told me that the price of the bike is Rs.7100. I was shocked to hear that. I told her that yesterday night the owner told me that the price was Rs.6800. But she told me that he might not have known the current price.

Finally they quoted Rs.7000 as i was the first customer for that day. The bike came with a raleigh bell and a cable lock

A mechanic at the shop checked and adjusted gears and brakes in the cycle.
After that I did a test ride and found that front disc brake was rubbing. Again the mechanic adjusted it and now it is okay. I asked the mechanic how to do the alignment. He replied that you can not do that. Only experienced mechanic can.

My first ride on the cycle was from balaji cycle world, saidapet to my home. The distance was approximately 17km. It was a nice sunny day and the time was 12:30 pm. Temperature was 40 degree Celsius and it felt like 46 degree. Usually i dont sweat much. But that day i sweat like anything.

But I loved that ride.

I found the disc brake is rubbing again when i reach home. I felt like a dead duck and i wont go to the shop again the same day. So i bought a 5 mm allen key and tried to align it myself.

After consulting with youtube and couple of sites, i figured out how to do the magic secret of aligning the disc brake. The document posted by Kiran was also useful. The brake adjustment doc from shimano is here.
I spent about 30 minutes and now the wheel is running smooth.

Here are features of my bike:
  1. All alloy frame and fork.
  2. light weight bike from hercules
  3. 21 speed shimano turney derailleur system with revoshift
  4. front wheel disc brake
  5. little harder but still comfortable saddle
  6. rear v brake
  7. adjustable saddle
  8. quick release front wheel
  9. front and rear suspensions
I will post some of the photos of my bike soon.
